True Germany'e me. 262 was, in fact, the first operational combat aircraft. But what nation turbojet aircraft flew the first cigar? It seems that a number of nations that actually worked on the plane of its kind in the late 30's and very early 40's.

Germany, in 1939. Britain did not get in the air until 1941 despite having entered research aircraft engine first.
