If I were a betting man, he had a big bet on the fact that when any of that pop stars that rule the charts today and kick the bucket, there would be another small riot that perhaps a rather small obituary in the pages of the entertainment world.
Fortunately, no I am, but as hard as it may sound, the pop stars of today are a big part to forget much, and few will be remembered 50 years from now. However, when I learned of the death of Richard 'Rick' Wright's recent, it seemed as if the era of popular music came to an end.
Wright, a musician best known for his association with the progressive rock giants Pink Floyd, was a quiet person very different from his rock star contemporaries. Than seemed true in his work and the people off stage.
Although Floyd was dominated by men against Roger Waters and David Gilmour and his rock stars the size of the egos, the role of Rick Wright of Pink Floyd's training can not be underestimated. A founding member of the band and was part of the original lineup, with the eccentric and perhaps overrated genius of the late Syd Barrett.
Wright's main instruments remained on keyboards and synthesizers, while he also occasionally contributed vocals as well as the band's song-writing. And for those with knowledge, even in an area of Pink Floyd sound, it is clear that Wright's synth lines were a distinctive feature of the songs that will be remembered as milestones of popular music.
Rick Wright playing was clean and orderly, but not mechanical, and separated from the extravagance of contemporary musician, synth player Rick Wakeman - a man prodigious talent - from Yes. It laid the foundations for legendary lyrics of Waters and Gilmour's voice and guitar and percussion of Nick Mason to weave ACE pure magic on tape.
Some of his most memorable moments were on issues such as proto Welcome to the Machine since 1975 the historical record Wish You Were Here, with their planes disturbing that painted a grim, Orwellian picture. The structure of textures Shine You Crazy Diamond - all sides - was again led by key Wright, and his solos are memorable.
But perhaps his defining moment came earlier, in 1973 the dark side of the moon. Wright shares the lead vocals on the epic time Gilmour, while he co-wrote another classic from the legendary album, Us and Them, remembered for his saxophone solo resonance and a beautiful piano solo by Wright.
He was relieved of Pink Floyd during recording sessions for the album's flagship band. The Wall in 1979, mainly due to differences with Roger Waters and was reduced to the humiliating status of a session musician on the tour back of the album. This is the cruel, cruel reality of political rock star.
Wright re-enter the Floydian times in recent years eighty after the band shed Waters and Gilmour, Mason and cooperation. began playing under the nickname of Pink Floyd.
It also launched two efforts alone - 1978's Wet Dream and 1996's Broken China.
Richard Wright left this world on September 15 2008, 65 years at his home in the UK. He will be remembered for Floyd fans and fans of popular music as a man who contributed to one of the bands seminal of modern popular music - a rock canon that includes such names as Black Sabbath, Rush, The Clash and many others. Rick Wright helped Pink Floyd, a band with few parallels in modern music.
