How to stop a horse let alone eatin?

My friend trains show jumping horses. It was recently discovered his horse up eating nothing. He figured after a while the horse had eaten nothing but leaves an adjacent field. He did not eat the leaves and now expect a horse refuses normal diet.He gets violent if you refuse leaves.The vet said that will not last long, but he's still with us.
