Jazz Drum

Everyone knows that the battery drum is one of the main instruments of his drum kit. Not only is the drum played in all but also has the important task of cutting through the noise and chaos of any show on stage for each of the band members of the audience can clearly discernible rhythm. With thousands of battery on the market today, selecting a drum suitable for their particular needs can be a task difficult, but much easier when we keep the following three attributes in mind: the diameter, depth, material and Shell. Although there certainly other factors that can make a difference, Nail these three must get over 80% of the road.
Bore diameter, for those who need a brush geometry example, is nothing more than the distance across a circle through the center. Translated in a barrel this means that the distance between the drum rim to rim through the center of the head. Drums can be classified into groups of diameters following:
- 10 "=" Popcorn "drums.
- 12 "and 13" diameter = "Piccolo" Drums
- 14 "=" Standard "drum.
The diameter is the major determinant of height for a particular drum - in other words, the drums sound less than drums diameter larger diameter, equal. Therefore, if you want a great snare sound, is research a popcorn or Piccolo snare. For a more typical snare drum sound, it will limit the search to a trap standard.
Depth The depth of a drum, simply refers to its height when placed on a tie rack or the floor. As the diameter, depth may also influence the tone of a drum, with most drums a step somewhat lower. However, the most important attribute is influenced by a bottom drum is its ability to project sound, or its "power". Drums are deeper power. In other words, it is easier to hear a deep drum rear of the theater. Shallower than the drums of impotence, but to compensate for the clarity of tone.
- 3 "to 4.5" = "Piccolo"
- 5 "to 5.5" = "Standard"
- 6 "more =" Deep "
A true piccolo drum, therefore, is one that is 12-13 "across and not more than 4.5". You may have a profound Piccolo (also called "Power Piccolo") and may have a diameter of standard battery is also shallow. You'll have a lower pitch, but a relatively clear to your it, which may be ideal for the post jazz band or specific applications.
Shell Material entire books have been written drum materials on the envelope, but the question can be divided into two main parts: the yards of wood and metal shells.
- Wood Drum Shells typically allow a project warmer and fuller tone harmony. Materials are typical of reservoirs constructed in mahogany, maple and birch, each with its own unique qualities. More recently, the major drum manufacturers have experimented with different woods, as bubinga from Africa, nuts and even bamboo, with very positive results. The lumberyards are generally materials cons-plated wood chosen, and can vary from 4 ply to 8 layers of materials. The thicker layer (layer count), the most powerful sound of drums can produce, but partly at the expense of its natural resonance.
- The metal deposits tend to produce a more hawkish tone with power a little over a wooden drum shell. The four basic choices of metals are steel, brass, copper and aluminum. Among them, steel normally creates the strongest, brass and aluminum to create a sound that is slightly warmer and wood-like virtually without sacrificing much power. Recently, manufacturers of drums of other instruments were the most exotic metals like titanium too.
