Can I put metal strips vinyl siding to prevent mildew growth on the side of the house?

In this neighborhood we always have mildew, the accumulation green, in the north side of houses. I saw an episode of this old house was placed a strip of metal on a roof to prevent accumulation of moss. May this work in the vinyl siding?

Mold needs 4 things to grow: water, lack of sunlight, lack of ventilation, food. Remove any and you not have any mold. Your best choices are the ventilation and "meal". Do not put shrubs along the north side of the house and keep it clean. The metal strip probably helps to maintain; to dry.
