It happened yesterday, November 6 in Moscow, during a press conference that has been both Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi that the last of these two men made a comment about Obama (the president-elect of U.S.) which was translated into the English language is as follows: He (Obama) is young, handsome and tan.

One could interpret these words as offensive, if it chose to do so, but then again you can play almost anything, as such, when looking for the angle at which it could be. The words, however, are all to be seen, it does not matter, but its context. Berlusconi, as shown in the video on the Internet that can be spoken in what I would call a "nice joke" and not one intended to demean Obama in any case or at least that was clear. Perhaps the now famous or infamous line of Berlusconi as one cares to sort that might have even been taken from the title of the song "To be gifted young Black" African Americans, American singer Nina Simone.

I for my part, I am trying to justify what Berlusconi because I think there is nothing that needs to be justified but may explain to some who could have taken the wrong idea of what Berlusconi meaning was. Naturally it was to ensure that the element of race in his remarks, but in a sense his comment was not really a logic that the mind must see as pejorative. That being the case, even if many of his political opponents of Berlusconi that Italy in number many among them can count on the mayor of Rome (Walter Veltroni, who is also the leader of the opposition EP, "Democratic Party" or Democrat) who is always looking for opportunities to take shots at Berlusconi even when a just cause is not found.

For my part, I think many of the comments of the media attention is getting Berlusconi not connected to the observation itself, but Berlusconi's past, including telling a maker Austrian law should play the role of an officer Nazi concentration camp into a movie. Of course, it is clear to see that Berlusconi's sense of humor sometimes is not the kind of a world leader must express particular in public, as you can get out of shame not only for itself but the nation it represents, even if no malice intended.

Turning the other hand, one could say that Berlusconi is quite naive to think that that comment, regardless of what it meant to be innocent, would not be exploited by its rivals, many politicians back home or the media that after many comments like he made about Islam after September 11. Berlusconi is perhaps naive, but regarding your comment yesterday, I ask would it be fair to label it as racist in the sense that he intended to insult the color of the Obama's skin or an insult?

This is the question I think should be answered in the negative and I can not speak for Berlusconi himself can do it for me same as I saw none of these intentions more then me when I hear from my Italian friends that told me my skin in summer tans faster than yours does not or if it is slightly tanned. After all this is a fact of my skin that should not and does not offend. This is due to the racial mix in me that comes from my mother is an American mixed South (this word means a person who is half white and half Indian from South America), while my father is (or was, as he died earlier this year) Italian, which actually makes my skin tone slightly darker then the average Italian.

But back to the question of a review of Obama Berlusconi on the skin, I suggest those who are more than willing to heap criticism on Berlusconi at least wait to hear what Obama has to say about the comment. Because at the end of the day from the commentary involves him and not to any other member of the black race, although it could also be heard in the media communication is that Obama and him alone, whose reaction to be considered and not those who seek to use a comment from Berlusconi for political gain.

In conclusion, however, I would suggest to Silvio Berlusconi (also owner of my favorite soccer team AC Milan), as an Italian-American that in the future refrain from such comments, that while not offensive in content or intent, can and probably will be used against him by those who are willing to do so. This statement is what Veltroni's "Sky TV 24" makes clear that all that's also my personal believe that these comments when the evil are not perhaps silly to a degree that really have no place in international politics.
