The term "Old Time Radio" refers to programs that are broadcast entertainment to the public of the 1920s and early 1960s. At first, most radio programs emulated the vaudeville acts that were the mainstay of public amusement before radio. Comics and singers ruled the airwaves! Best of all, no longer had to leave home to enjoy his talent! Finally, however, audiences matured and other types of programs were added to the radio show. Drama series became very popular, including medical programs, soap operas, and even film scripts that were adapted for radio. Appeal number of policemen, thieves, detectives private, and jeans at home! Fantasy captivated the audience with familiar characters like Superman and The Green Hornet! Fans of this genre has its share of ghosts, vampires and werewolves. Those who longed for science fiction has its weekly craving for stories of the future, space travel and exploration of the unknown. Game shows like "You Bet Your Life "gave the average person in an escape from everyday life!

The first commercial radio station in the U.S. (KDKA in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) began to issue from time to time, in 1920. In 1922, the first regularly broadcast old time radio had begun. Until late 1920, the musical programs were more popular with shows highlighting the opera, big bands, jazz, classical and popular music.

In the 1930s, the series appeared Comedy series began to appear as the "George Burns and Gracie Allen Show" and "Jack Benny Show," which both began in 1932. "Amos N 'Andy "really hit the airwaves in 1928! Then in the 1940s, an almost endless list of comedy programs joined those pioneers and comedy shows became most prolific in the genre until the end of Old Time Radio.

In 1947, 82% of people in the U.S. listening to the radio on a regular basis. The Old Time Radio shows are not like most audio books today, where someone with a pleasant voice reading a book. Old Time Radio shows were productions like television programs today. There were no sound effects, multiple actors in multiple roles, and scripts first! Many people today are shocked at how entertaining it can be when they hear its first program of Old Time Radio. The lack of video can be really a plus! His mind often imagines the characters and the landscape much better things to do on a television screen.

Most of Old Time Radio Shows were aired live till evening 1940. Therefore, the most popular programs had to be performed twice due to the time difference between east coast and west coast. Most of these programs have been lost to us today as they were generally not recorded. There are exceptions in which advertisers wanted copies of their programs or some programs that aired in syndication. Fortunately, by the 1950s, many programs were broadcast live on the east coast and recorded for later broadcast on the West Coast. A surprisingly large number of these recordings are still in existence today thanks mainly by the collector / fans who purchased through the years. Because of their age, most of them are freely available on the Internet, or a cost is being transformed into a mostly music format. Not shown, however, that continued for several more years and some even into the air at the same time like a TV version of the same program.
