Vlora is a coastal city on the Adriatic coast, Albania. It is reputed to be one of the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean region and in recent years has become a major tourist center.

Besides the beach, Vlora has a rich cultural history dating back to 6th century BC A stone wall was built around the city in the 4th century BC C. and was the main port of Illyria (the former name of Albania). During that time, Vlora was known for its olives, wine and salt production.
In medieval times, Vlora was under the administration of several different rulers. The Normans conquered the region in 1081, and later became the state of Venice before being handed over to the Germans. In 1272 he joined the arbri kingdom and in 1400 an Albanian feudal family dominated the city. Finally, in 1417 Vlora was the first port to fall to the Ottoman Turks. The Ottomans built mosques and forts and other monuments during his reign of 500 years.
In the modern era, Albania became independent in 1912 and Vlora was the place where independence was declared. Fittingly, there is a museum dedicated to the movement for independence in Vlora and should be near the top of your list if you are visiting for cultural Vlora.
Another important place to visit in Vlora Muradian is the Mezquita. It was built in 1542 and was designed by architect Sinani. It was commissioned by Sultan Sulejman was in Vlora and the preparation of a naval attack in Italy.
Kanina Castle is another must-see place for any cultural tour of Vlora. This castle dominated the whole Vlora medieval times and is currently Kanina village near the city. If you like old castles, then you can go visit the castles of Porto-Palermo, Himara Ilias and all are in the area around Vlora.
There are a number of places of worship which are points of interest to tourists and these are the Monastery Santa Maria in Zvernec Village, San Mitri Churh in the village of Qepara, Mesodhia church in the village of Vuno and the Church of San Sotiria in the village of Vuno.
In addition to the above Museum of Independence, the city also has a Museum of Ethnography and History Museum.
