Arundinaria cane Giantea also called cane switchcane. This is a giant reed is known for providing summer grazing for cattle, pigs, sheep and horses in the foothills north and winter grazing along the Gulf Coast states. The stems of the grass plant are often used for pipe stems, baskets, mats and fishing rods.
The stems of Arundinaria Giantea Cane sugar is dried and stripped into pieces of great length to create the material for mats and baskets. Native Americans used the woven baskets to carry plants and crops. The ancient techniques still used today as a treasure of almost Shopping lose fabric styles.
The stem of the plant used for fishing rods were strong and flexible to enable the widespread use and long lasting equipment fishing. Similar to cane poles modern day, the Giantea Arundinaria cane fishing poles were used by the pioneers, when in the desert.
The plant is native warm season, as a perennial herb that is robust. It can grow to 20 feet tall with leaves up to 12 inches long and ½ inch wide that gradually form a point. The leaves grow in clusters of three to five blades on the ends of small branches and a shorter petiole between the sheath and leaves. The leaves that overlap, with a rounded shape. The plant structure is similar to a row of shorter hairs with woody stems and the peg holes and opened a branch of the flower with twelve spines on each ear.
The Cane Arundinaria Giantea is a hardy plant, but excessive livestock grazing or burning could easily kill this species of grass. To ensure proper grass production is highly recommended to only allow no more than 50 percent of the herb to be used for grazing for one year at any time. The only time that a controlled burn of grass you have to do is when the humidity is high, the soil is moist and the wind does not blow over because of the grass to burn than necessary. Controlled burning should not occur more than once every four years to ensure reproduction of natural grass. With the limited damage to the plant through overgrazing and control the burn, the plants will remain active naturally.
Arundinaria cane has Giantea foliage and leaves all year. It grows from the rootstock and parent nodes. Form small groups or colonies in the bushes and made a lasting growth of the densest areas near trees. It adapts easily the riverbanks that are wet and low areas of the waterways in soils fertilized more prosperous.
