What happens when too strong an adsorbent used in chromatography?

What happens when too strong an adsorbent is used in chromatography? I can not find it in my book. I'm assuming that the solvent would move too slowly through the column and not a wedge enough?

If adsorbs strongly, it means that all chemical species you want to separate just stick to it and you will not be able to separate them, or in some cases even remove a column of gas chromatography. So yes, bad, or if there is no separation. The solvent moves normaly, because no (or at least should not) interact with the adsorbent.
