One of the most influential players of jazz that the world has known, Oscar Emmanuel Peterson was born on 15 August 1925 in Little Burgundy, Montreal. Their livelihood was one absorbed with jazz music since he lived in a town where most of the population were African American. When only five years old, he was taught the piano and trumpet. After being affected with tuberculosis a few years later, he left the trumpet and turned all his efforts towards the piano.

His main teacher these years, was self-educated father was a janitor working with the Canadian Pacific Railways. He taught the Oscar and his four brothers, all of who won, while playing the piano when I was in the merchant navy. His sister brought it to their attention and taught him classical music.

Since it began play the piano, Oscar made sure they got their basic right to faithfully their daily practice and the scales of classical studies - a habit that gave him a good basis on the grounds that in his later years contributed to much of its grip on the piano. One of his piano teachers in their early years was Paul de Marky, who also and her sister teaches classical piano lessons Oscar game.

He began to take on traditional jazz recordings, which led him to learn many subjects Ragtimes and boogie-woogie time. This ability of his earned him the tag "The Brown Bomber of Boogie-Woogie". By the time he was nine, his game was so ripe like any other professional. He spent anywhere between four and six hours each day perfecting himself in the piano - a habit he kept when he was long in their careers.

When I was 14 years old, took part in a national competition organized by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in which came out the winner. This marked the beginning of his career. His performance was playing to standing than once a week program on the radio. He also played in the hotels and music halls.

The inspiration for his style of play came from most jazz musicians than any pianist at the time of idolized - Nat King Cole, Teddy Wilson, James P. Johnson and Art Tatum. The tables turned later in his career, when Art Tatum was compared to him in his last years of success. His first hearing of a piece Art Tatum was when his father played Tiger Rag for him. After hearing this, he nearly lost faith in his ability to play the piano and could. He admitted later that he was intimidated by the technique of Art Tatum and that made him decide to be humble in their own ability to play. Oscar Peterson finished to become good friends with Tatum, but never let the fear was in man. He rarely played the piano when he was about Tatum.

Not only was fascinated by the music of Tatum, also looked to the pianists that Tatum considered one began to play. His work had a lot of inspiration and note by note sections collected some of the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff. His work with his trio, the trio of Oscar Patterson - with Herb Ellis on guitar and Ellis Brown on bass there were many such references.

His influences extend to classical music which has been attributed to his sister Daisy Sweeney. The discipline that was involved one of the key skills took when he started learning piano with her.

Peterson found a good friend and collaborator Norman Granz. Granz discovered him when I heard Peterson play in a club through a live radio broadcast. He was traveling in a taxi at the time. Hearing him play, he asked the driver to take him immediately to the club where Oscar Peterson was playing.

Granz got him a gig at Carnegie Hall as part of his Jazz at the Philharmonic series. Since then, Granz served as their manager. Granz was behind Peterson in the fight against segregation. He stood between the trio and a police officer who was trying to stop traveling in "whites only" taxis.

Peterson was plagued by health problems throughout their lives. Her arthritis to the extent that he could not button of his own shirt. It was too heavy for their size which affects their mobility. But physical problems or not, history records no doubt Oscar Peterson as one of the most great jazz pianists of all time.
